About
Connecting communities with traditional leadership
Traditional Councils South Africa is a national directory connecting communities with traditional leadership. Learn how the directory is built and verified.
Traditional Councils South Africa is a public directory of traditional councils, traditional leaders and the communities they serve. It exists so that residents, businesses, government departments and other stakeholders can quickly find the right council and the right office.
How information is collected
Listings are built from publicly available information, direct submissions by traditional councils and corrections suggested by community members. Every listing states clearly whether the information is verified by the council, community-submitted, or unverified.
Data quality and trust
- Verified information has been confirmed by an authorised council representative.
- Community-submitted information comes from residents and is reviewed by an administrator.
- Unverified listings are directory records that have not yet been confirmed.
- Every profile displays a Last Updated date.
Unverified information is never presented as an official endorsement by a traditional council. Where demonstration data is used to illustrate the interface, it is labelled as sample data.
Technology partner
The platform is powered by AddressDox, a digital platform that helps traditional councils digitise addresses, resident records, Proof of Residence services and community administration.
